Re-Packing - Further Exercising Minimalism
Since my last packing list post, I completed my South American stint, consumed New York City, returned to Pittsburgh, baked in Spain, fried in Morocco, simmered in Tuscany, and now I’m cooling off in Scotland before heading off to the Balkans, followed by central Europe. This trip, too, ought to be around three months in total.
Again, I brought only my 16 liter bag (Fjallraven Kanken). Most items stayed the same, with a couple minor swaps, but no serious reductions.

These are all of my belongings on the road.
Rather than reiterating everything I packed, these are the "diffs" from my last post.:
What's new
- Leuchtturm Notebook, pens
- Gigi Studios Sunglasses (acquired in Rabat)
- French horn mouthpiece
- 2024 M4 Pro Macbook(replaced 2017 Intel Macbook Pro)
- Nike Running Shorts (replaced Patagonia Baggies)
- Handknit (by Mom) wool Socks (replaced REI wool)
What's ommitted
- Kindle
- Cotton socks, several shirts
I still frequently hear “I could never do that”. Sure you can! Unless you have specific medical or professional needs, why not? Next time you have a long weekend trip, try to pack in the smallest backpack you can find. You’ll find you won’t miss things as much as you think. Missing books? Try an e-reader or the kindle app. Missing your big camera? Learn more of the features of your phone’s camera. Missing outfit versatility? Not much you can do on that front, but it’s a good exercise in being less vain (as i’ve learned).
